If you are on the fence about trying a class. Just show up and then decide! You will feel challenged, and proud that you did so afterwards.
Below is a photo I took of another student at a tournament. There's more than just classes involved. Martial arts classes here are just a doorway into an amazing world if humble awesome people, and a community.
Also. I never liked cardio because it's stupid and boring. So if you want to "get fit" you might as well do it here, learn a real life skill (how to fight), and have fun. I get a better cardio work out than anything else I've ever done, and it is sort of "free" to me because I never dreaded doing it, and I do it more often via kickboxing than any other medium. Getting fit is just secondary to having fun and learning a skill.

I was concerned about walking into a 'Cobra-Kai' like atmosphere with testosterone filled egos, eager to intimidate you with their expressionless faces and combat skills.
Quite the opposite happened.
From my very first day I saw a sense of camaraderie and friendship with the people at this school, both students and instructors.
I was welcomed by personable instructors who were patient and approachable with questions and during the classes they provided professional instruction, were encouraging, and even had a sense of humor while guiding me. They seem to really want whats best for me.
Having attended two months now I still look forward to attending class, learning, sweating, meeting new people and connecting with those I've met and surprisingly having fun. The classes are open to all levels of ability and created in a way that makes everyone feel equal. I never feel intimated, which is incredible, because it isn't until after my round of grappling with someone that I discover I was just wrestling the sheriffs deputy or a couple of correction officers from the local prison, an MMA champ, a software engineer, or a mom who has three kids in the class taking place next to ours!
The owner of the gym, Brian Olson (a four time Olympic competitor) doesn't just sit in his office and let his instructors teach, he is always on the floor greeting and teaching everyone from children to adults and he has been accommodating, encouraging and understanding of injuries, guiding me with a different approach when one wasn't working for me; this has been one of the more positive experiences in my life and I look forward to make Jujitsu and Alliance Academy a part of my journey.

While serving in the Army, I sustained a severe injury to my left ankle that required surgery and years of rehab. I had to stop doing many of the physical tasks that I loved (like martial arts, weightlifting and running) and gradually gained weight over the years while attending college. After years of recovery, I decided I needed to regain my confidence and get back into shape – to do so, I decided to re-start my martial arts training at Alliance BJJ St. Croix, and it was one of the best decisions of my life.
Since starting, I’ve lost weight and I’m gradually starting feeling like my old self. Throughout the process Brain has been texting me once a week to monitor my self-development, give advice and cheer me on. I’ve never had a martial arts instructor care so much about his students personal and martial arts growth. Brian’s caring nature has created a school culture where everyone is warm and welcoming to newcomers, where every senior student is eager to help a newcomer like me – with no judgment.
In addition to the school’s amazing culture, this is some of the best BJJ instruction you will find in the Twin Cities metro. They go into extensive detail with every move set, position, and drilling – which is no surprise since you’re receiving instruction from a former Olympic martial artist.
I can’t recommend Brian Olson’s: “Alliance BJJ St. Croix” enough – give the school a try and I guarantee that it will change your life and bring your grappling abilities to the next level.

We have 2 daughters, one is in the teens class and one is in the eagles class. And they always look forward to practice.
The friends they’ve made and the skills they have learned are amazing and a blessing.
Brian does a great job of making lessons fun, but also encourages them to hold themselves accountable in their actions on and off the mat.
I’ve also been taking the adult classes. And being a smaller female, I appreciate the coaches and the guys for not “tossing me around” with their strength, but also not going so light that I’m not benefitting from the lesson. They make me work for it, and it’s awesome!! I really feels like I have a bunch of big brothers here! Every single one of them are fantastic!!
Seriously, this place is the best. And it’s very family focused. There are so many families here with kids in the kids classes and one or both parents in the adult class.
I can’t recommend this place enough!
